Our ROOTS run deep. Far beyond the sport of Jiu jitsu. At ROOTS we are a community of people that love learning together. We view jiujitsu as a dance of the Mind body and soul. A daily practice of patience and overcoming obstacles. We teach that there is more than one route to get to any destination.
We teach with great mindfulness as we translate this art form into basic concepts for even the most novice of students to understand.
Jiu jitsu at Roots is much more than just leaning how to grapple with submissions. It is part sport, part meditation, part mental clarity, part family. The series of movements we teach are based off of the concept of imbalance. Meaning we teach technique to maneuver another human body following the path of least resistance. Strength is part of the equation, but knowing the technique is what takes our students to the next level. Just as important as the movement is keeping calm while utilizing nearly every single sense you have in a stressful situations. Jiu jitsu in the fighting world is often compared to the game of chess. Making strategic plays to off balance you opponent.

Alex Hodi
The true practice of jiu jitsu for me runs far deeper than a fight or a title. It is a mindfulness and spiritual martial art that has shaped all aspects of my life. I find great beauty and joy in translating this martial art and teaching it to others. I have competed for years and still do. I have won some of the most prestigious tournaments in Jiu Jitsu including Worlds, Pan American Championships, and multiple IBJFF tournaments. I have been a blackbelt since 2018. My personal goals are to constantly continue my education by studying the sport and the top athletes in this field. I want to pass this knowledge along to my students and utilize it myself as an athlete.
